Toula Karayannis
Digital Kulcha's director, Toula Karayannis has over 25 years experience teaching in and managing community education and technology programs. She managed the Duke Street Community House (Sunshine, Melbourne) Adult Community Education program from 1988 to 2002. In 2003 she took a leave of absence to gain her Diploma of Multimedia (Swinburne University of Technology).
She returned in 2006 a new incarnation of Special Projects worker where she managed Duke St Community House’s promotions, publications and other special projects till June 2009. In 2005 she started Digital Kulcha, an enterprise aimed at helping individuals, small business and community non-profit organizations with all their multimedia needs.
She was driven by a desire to deliver a service that cut through the mumbo jumbo of the web and help mere mortals get the best out of what the virtual realm had to offer. She heads a team of talented designers and teachers with a broad range of specialties which include e-commerce solutions, animation, promotional and audio-visual products and services.
The over all goal of the Stockholm Challenge is to help counteract social and economic disadvantage, wherever it occurs, by promoting the use of ICT for development. It is mostly targeted towards developing regions and community or social sectors such as gender equality and minorities with the greatest needs. The award invites projects in six different categories:
- Public Administration
- Education
- Economic Development
- Culture
- Health
- Environment
